  Social networking: pen pals
  
  We live in the world of high technologies and innovations. It is true that the Internet has changed the life of millions of people around the world. Modern society cannot imagine life without modern devices such as smartphones, laptops, tablets and computers. There are different ways of communication today. People make phone calls, fax, send emails or text messages. Today very few people send letters or telegrams.
  
  Thanks for the appearance of social networking sites, people have an opportunity to socialize with their relatives or friends who live far away from them, meet new friends and develop their language skills by communicating with native speakers of different foreign languages. So, social networking extends the limits of communication. It is no secret that many people enjoy starting romantic relationships or find new friends over the Internet. Thanks to chat rooms online daters can meet up people with mutual interests and values. Online chats give more opportunities to know the interlocutor better. People talk for hours every day and do build close relationships.
  
  As far as I am concerned, I spend quite a lot of time on social networking sites, such as Facebook and Instagram. For, instance, on Facebook I socialize with my pen-friends or as they are called penpals from London. I think it will help me to master the language and to learn more about traditions, customs, culture and lifestyle of the target language country. Besides, we often talk to each other on Skype and with its help I improve my pronunciation and listening comprehension, enrich my vocabulary and immerse myself in an English language environment. My pen-pals usually correct my mistakes and I make some notes. Moreover, I Facebook helped me reunite and find my lost friends. Instagram is my little world full of colorful events and vivid emotions. I post my photos every day so that I’ll be able to look through them after some time and recall some happy moments. My friends always comment and like my photos. Besides, on Instagram you can follow celebrities or people who lead full, active life and be abreast of the latest news.
  
  Anyway, social networking sites give people a brilliant chance to meet new people, who think alike, to share your thoughts with the whole world and to practice a foreign language.
