The flag of Russia is a three coloured flag consisting of three equal horizontal fields: white on the top, blue in the middle, and red on the bottom.Flag is the country’s main symbol, as well as the anthem and coat of arms.The history of the flag comes from the 1697 when Tsar Peter I visited the Netherlands. He liked the simple design of Dutch flag and used the same colours for the Russian flag. Through the years the flag had been changed, removed and brought back again until in August 21, 1991. Then the original design from Peter the Great was re-adopted officially in December, 1991.Though there is no distinctive meaning for the colours of the flag some believe white stands for peace and generosity, blue standing for truth, loyalty and wisdom and red standing for strength, courage and love.In 1994 the National Flag Day was established in Russia. It is celebrated on 22 August, but people work on this day. -
